Saturday, August 1, 2020 - We drove for about 90 minutes to arrive at the Shipshewana Campground North just three miles north of Shipshewana, Indiana. The drive was uneventful and mostly on rural back roads. It was easy to get into the RV site and we were set up in short order; no sewer, just water and power. We will be staying here for four days and depart on Tuesday of next week for a five mile drive to the Shipshewana Campground South site where we will remain for a week. Shipshewana Campground North has an ice cream stand about 100 feet from our trailer; this is dangerous. We drove into Shipshewana just to see what the town was like. We also had and ice cream cone when we arrived back at the RV park.

On Sunday, August 2, 2020, we stayed around the RV in the morning and just relaxed. in the morning, we traveled to the RV/MH Hall of Fame/Museum in Elkhart, Indiana, We got to see a large number of antique an famous RVs and motorhomes going all the way back to the 1920s. Many of these RVs are truly classic models used for many years. Check out the photo album for photos of these RVs. I will also try to create a video of the facility too (once I get better WiFi). We had rain and the chance of rain was strong too. In the afternoon, we drove to several cities in the areas to see the places where they make RVs. This is the heart of the RV industry for the United States. First we drove to Middlebury where Jayco Trailers are made. Jayco has a huge complex, but there was not a soul there on Sunday. We decided to go to Jayco on Monday to seek service help.

Note: There is a huge Amish and Mennonite influence in this area. All businesses are closed on Sunday and after 5:00 on Saturday. The county that we are in is also a "dry county." That means that you cannot buy any alcohol in this county at any time. Saturday evening and Sunday are a time of rest for the Amish and they were out-and-about in their carriages and on their bicycles visiting other Amish families and holding services. The Amish only attend church every other Sunday. Their carriages are small, all black, and well made. An entire family of seven can fit in one. The horses are fast and move along with a "trotters" gate and around 15 mph. You can hear them coming on the paved shoulder of the road from a long distance.

After leaving the Jayco dealer, we drove to the Grand Design facility, then the Coachman plant, then the Newmar facility before returning to our RV. Along the way, we saw several other RV manufacturers that I was not familiar with. We also saw the Forest River plant. There were also plants with hundreds of panel truck conversions for Amazon. They are just like the ones used by UPS, but blue in color with the Amazon logo on the side. We then went to lunch at a place called "Lasalle Farm & Table." It had previously been called "Amish Acres." It had recently changed hands and was previously run by the "Shakers" sect of the Amish. The food was awesome and the prices were reasonable. The service was good too. We had planned a tandem ride on a 17 mile paved path out of Sheshewana, but the threat of rain kind of put the "kabash" on the tandem ride. We did go for a four-mile walk and the rain came at about 9:00 in the evening.

Monday, August 3, 2020 - We had a whole host of chores to do today. First of all, we drove to Middlebury to a medical clinic to set up a cortisone shot for Lisa. We had great luck setting up the shot and just needed a referral from Lisa's doctor in Roseville, CA. She called the doctor's office and go the referral and we should be in good shape for her shot on Thursday. We then drove to Goshen, Indiana and the Jayco offices. We went to the service center talked to the head of service for Jayco. He heard out concerns and recommend that we contact the service coordinators who would then set up an appointment for us about one month out. We contacted the coordinators office and I am supposed to get a call back within 72 hours; we will see. They still want to say that our RV is out of warranty period, but we had taken it into the shop under warranty to have these items fixed. We will have to discuss this in more detail, I'm sure. We then went to an early lunch (snack) at a "Das Dutch Essenhaus." We tried out some cinnamon rolls and consumed a bunch of calories. After that, we drove to a Verizon service store to buy a Jetpack to increase our access to the cellular towers around us and to improve our access to the internet. I am falling way behind on uploading photos due to poor internet access. We then drove back to the RV on a beautiful day.
