We drove to Michigan City, Indiana from from Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Our route took us south of Chicago and then east to Michigan City. We drove the entire distance on freeways and there was much more traffic then we were used to. We also found the freeways jam packed with trucks. There were trucks all over the place. At times, we had trucks all around us and it was not all that much fun. Really had to keep our focus on our driving.

Michigan City is a town located on the shore of Lake Michigan. There is a nice yacht/boat harbor and a lighthouse. It also has a main street with all the usual fast foods restaurants, Walmart, small mall, and just about anything that you would normally see in a larger town; except for Costco. We did go to a Costco in Merrillville, Indiana, but we did not need to buy much.

The primary reason for our stop in this area was for Lisa to see her sister, Patricia, and her husband Michael Garcher whom she had not see in over eleven years. They drove over to our RV park to see our trailer and to visit. Pat and Mike have a 2016 Ford Mustang convertible that is absolutely beautiful. They like to put the top down and drive to destinations in the area. It was fun checking out their car. We then hopped into the truck and headed for the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. We ended up taking a fun hike that took us down to the lake shore. There were tons of people on the beach and the water was a comfortable temperature. You could walk out a couple hundred feet from shore and the water would not be over your head. Pretty nice. After our hike, we headed back to the RV. We agreed to go to Pat and Mike's house the next day for dinner.

The next day I spent some time repairing a minor leak that we had on our slide out. After that repair, we went to Starbuck's where I tried to get the computer to work so that I could work on the blog; I am getting behind on uploading photos and such. We then traveled to Pat and Mike's house where we visited through the afternoon. Mike then prepared an excellent spaghetti dinner for all of us. Before dinner, we took the drone up and photographed Pat and Mike's home and the surrounding area. We had a very nice visit and were able to get back up to speed on what they were doing. We made plans to go to a restaurant for a lake perch dinner the next night.

The next day Lisa and I drove to Hobart, Indiana where Lisa had lived at one time when she worked for the Hammond Times newspaper. Lisa was a journalist. We drove around town and "think" we found the place where she used to live. It was now a vacant lot as the building was quite old when she lived there and it was not likely to still be there. We drove around the area so that Lisa could see if she remembered any of the structures there. It was tough. She had only been there two years and that was in 1980 to 1982. We then started to head over to Pat and Mike's to go to dinner. Unfortunately, Pat and Mike had taken their Mustang to a car wash and it would not start. They had to call a tow truck for assistance and they had to cancel our dinner plans. They agreed to come see us off before we left Michigan City for Elkhart, Indiana.

The next morning, August 1, 2020, Pat and Mike came by and we visited for a while. They then watched us prepare the RV for travel. Around 11:00 am we bid our final goodbyes and departed for Shipshewana, Indiana near Elkhart, Indiana. All-in-all, we had a great visit with Mike and Pat.
