The drive to Pine Harbor was very relaxed and took about four hours. We travel at about 63 mph (maximum) on the main highways and are never in a hurry. The cars pass us and pull away, so we rarely have to worry about braking for cars ahead of us. The campsite is a back-in site, but I did have some room to back up into our slot. We are under trees so the shade is very nice, but no satellite TV. Lots of tent campers and permanent campers. Cost is $35 per night.

On our first full day here, Wednesday, July 15, 2020, We decided to go on a tandem bike ride. We read about the Old Abe Trail and decided to give it a try. Old Abe was a bald eagle that was the living mascot for the 8th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. This infantry unit actually took the eagle into combat with them. The eagle became very famous and was even used as the model for the logo for the 101st Airborne Division and Case Corporation. The trail is about 20 miles long and is all paved. It starts at the Lake Wissota State Park near Chippewa Falls and travels to the Jean Brunet State Park near the town of Cornell. Cornell has a huge statue of Old Abe and is the home for one of the largest cheese plants in the state. It is also the home of the largest hydro-electric plant in the state. The trail is lined with beautiful flowers and is likely one of the best trails that we have seen on our travels (and that is saying a lot). We rode about 42 miles and the trail was super-smooth and straight. In 20 miles we only had 150 feet of elevation change; the trail is flat. About 70% of the trail was ridden in the shade of large trees. The temperature was only about 73 degrees, so the ride was very comfortable. There was no wind. This is an awesome trail and is a "rails to trails" course. The Jean Brunet State Park is a great part of this ride. You cross a bridge on the Chippewa River and then ride a circle around the island. The road was wide, smooth, and free of cars. It was also nearly completely covered with trees; like riding in a tunnel.

On July 16, 202, we did some chores to start the day. We then drove into Chippewa Falls to check out the town. Lots of old, brick building and old town ambiance. We then drove to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to get some copies made at a Fed Ex Shipment Store. I am the Trustee for a relative who passed away and have been conducting my responsibilities while on the road. Sometimes, I have to mail things or make calls. Eau Claire is a pretty cool town and the Eau Claire River flows right through it. We have heard of another paved bike trail in Eau Claire that will take us about 20 miles. We plan to ride that trail tomorrow. After doing our chores in Eau Claire, we drove to the Jean Brunet State Park and had a picnic and then hiked throughout the park. We then drove back to our RV for relaxation.

Today, Friday, July 17, 2020 we went to Chippewa Falls to wash the truck. We found a great car wash and had the job done in about 30 minutes. We then explored the town a little further. We went to the Lienenkugel Brewery. This brewery has a history in Chippewa Falls since the late 1800s. It is a cool facility and the history of how they make the beer is fascinating. We also found that there was a plant nursery that was having Latin music and Hispanic food from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening. We went to Eau Claire and looked around the town and then went to the nursery. The food was pulled pork, white rice, and beans, with a cool mango pudding for dessert. The music was just Mexican music (even though it was advertised as a Cuban evening) played on the nursery speakers. No band or dancing; bummer. Overall, it was a beautiful evening and the event was fun.
