Fairly easy drive from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. Egg Harbor is located on the peninsula north of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

When we arrived at Egg Harbor and began to setup our RV, it did not level properly and we encountered an electrical problem. We can live with the leveling issue since the trailer is basically level, but we just cannot get the middle stabilizers to extend. The electrical problem is another issue. We have no power to our bedroom or bathroom. This means that we cannot get our forward slide-out to extend. Therefore, we cannot get into our bedroom since we are too "chunky" to slither through the small gap that we could create between the slide-out and the door to the bathroom. I tried many options trying to isolate or fix the problem. I burned out eight fuses in the process all to no avail. So, we had to fall back on our second option which is to take everything out of the garage and convert it into a bedroom (which we did). Luckily, the large slide-out worked fine and we have the use of the rest of the RV. I obtained the name of a couple of service companies from the people running the RV campsite. I called one who never returned a call. I called the other number, which is an RV sales site with a service department, and they said that they would have someone out on Tuesday morning around 9:00. We were not optimistic, but we thought we would give it a try. We waited patiently today for the technician to arrive. He or she was supposed to start the day with us and be here around 9:00. No show. At noon I called the company and they said that they only had one technician today and that he was at another location to too close to us. He had several large jobs to handle but should get to us by late afternoon. Again, no show. We called again and the young girl in the service shop said that they had us down for Tuesday a week later. We leave here in three days. The technician was completely booked up for tomorrow, but could come on Thursday; the day that we leave. She, again, said that we would be the first stop for the technician. We have no options at this point and will have to give it a try on Thursday. We are in an area well away from any large repair facilities. We wasted and entire day waiting for the tech and we do not have that many days in this area. We will run around tomorrow to see as much as we can. We might be able to extend for one more day; we will see.

Yesterday, Monday, July 20, 2020, We spent the entire morning working on my responsibilities as Trustee for Chris Baker who passed away in March. We had a large stack of mail to go through and many people to call to close or clarify accounts. After that, Lisa and I went for walk into Egg Harbor to look around. We put in nearly five miles on the hike. We were late in the afternoon and many of the small cafe's and bakeries were either closed or out of food. We had to head back home to get food. Even the country store near us was out of bakery items and cherry pie which is a big thing here. After Brian and Lorrayne and Donnie and Karen. They were having a "cook off" since they both had purchased "Foodie" Cook Pots. We enjoyed our visit with them.

On Tuesday, July 21 2020, we waited all day at the RV for the RV tech who never showed up. We did get some chores done, but we did lose a day that we could have used to see the peninsula. This area is referred to as "the Cape Cod of Wisconsin."

On Tuesday, July 22, we decided to take a drive up the peninsula to check out some of the small towns in the area. Door County is often referred to as “the Cap Code” of Wisconsin. We found the towns to be picturesque and touristy. Lots of little places to eat, shop, and get coffee/pastries. We chose not to ride bikes because the main trail in one of the state parks was short an unpaved. We went for a long walk in the town of Ephreim. There is a nice little hamburger/ice cream place there called Wilson’s and we decided to return at another time to have lunch there. We drove through the state parks and then decided to look at the ferry at the top of the peninsula that goes back and forth from Washington Island. We watched the ferry come into the bay and unload its load of cars and trucks. Lorrayne and Brian had traveled to Washington Island with their friends Donnie and Karen. We chose not to make the trip too and just stay on the peninsula. We have some photos on the photo blog showing our trip up the peninsula.

When we returned to the RV park, we asked to stay for another day since we had a maintenance technician coming in the morning and we did not know how long it would take. They extended us at our site for the extra day. That helped.

On Thursday morning, we waited for the maintenance technician. He arrived around 9:00 which was great. He isolated the electrical short to a light that had been out for some time. We tried to have the light replaced six months ago in Tucson, Arizona, but the company had failed to order the proper light. The short affected the slide out and the lights in the bedroom. Since we could not get the slide out to extend, we could not get into the master bathroom or the master bedroom. The tech also showed me how to electrically extend the slide out with an external 12-volt source. That could really be helpful. We then asked him to look at the main slide out in the living room. It works, but it makes a lot of weird noises in the process. He re-lubed the seals around the slide out and showed me how to lubricate the rollers for the slide out; which I did.

We were now able to use the entire RV. We then moved the sleeping area from the garage back to the master bedroom and I stowed all of our gear in the garage for tomorrows departure. We then had Lorrayne and Brian over for snacks and discussion in the late afternoon. We were all tired of eating cherry pie, cobbler, and strudel. It is just a way of life on the peninsula with so many places to buy desserts.

We then worked on the final actions necessary to depart the next morning. Little did we know what were going to get into on the next day. See the next blog for more info on this departure.
