We drove the short distance from Sisters, Oregon to Crane Prairie RV Park located about 25 miles SW of Bend, Oregon. It is a beautiful site, although a little tight fitting "The Beast" into our slot. We have come to the conclusion that what many site operators consider a "big rig" may be a little smaller than The Beast. We barely made it to our site as the road through the camping area has some fairly sharp turns; pretty close to some trees. We have developed a plan to enter and exit sites; Lisa walks behind the RV with a walkie-talkie to let me know if I am getting close to anything on the side I cannot see. At least she can stop me before I clobber something.

Great lake with great views and fishing. The lake is very shallow with lots of trees just under the surface. LIsa drove the fishing boat; which was a first for her. She did an excellent job. We fished with bobbers and lures. We used night crawlers with the bobbers, which was a pretty lazy way to fish. Perfectly calm winds all morning.

The roads in the area are paved, narrow and excellent for bike riding. Lisa and I walked three miles out of the park and only saw one car. We also took a three-mile hike on an unpaved national forest road that took us way off the beaten path.

We drove to the Lava Tube Cave found in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The tube is one mile long and descends about 200 feet. It is an out-and-back, so you are in the tube for two miles. Pretty cool; litterally, since the temp is a constant 42 degrees in the tube. No bats were seen. Then we drove to the top of a cinder cone that provided a super view of the surrounding area. Next we checked out the Visitor's Center to learn more about the monument. We then drove to the Lake Paulina (pronounced paul-line-a). Just before we arrived at the lake, we stopped to view Paulina Falls. Very nice waterfall. The lake was named after and Indian Chief. We also saw East Lake. We then took a hike on the Obsidian Flow. This was amazing; so much obsidian covering such a large area. Very shape so you had to be careful during the hike.
