We drove to Mountain Home AFB. A hot day and the inn was full; we are parked in the overflow area. Due to the heat, we are running our generator constantly with two air conditioners running constantly. Makes it nice in the trailer. Chuck, the camp host has been very nice to us. We have a spot to move into in the morning. Then we will have ground power and no have to use the generator. We will be here for three days; less than originally planned, but we lost two days with our truck breakdown. We are looking at things to do here. Tomorrow we will kayak in the Snake River; maybe fish too. We will see.

This base has three aviation squadrons with about 50 F-15 fighters. There is also one unit that represents the country of Singapore with pilots from that country flying the F-15 here too. They then return to Singapore and fly their countries F-15SG aircraft. I asked the security police if I can take photos of the aircraft as they takeoff. They said that it is not a problem as long as I am on the main base, and not a restricted area. I intend to go out when it gets darker to see if I can get some photos.

We decided that it would have been a little "dicey" getting into our spot at the FamCamp, so we decided to stay in overflow one more night and then leave for Idaho Falls. The decision was driven by the fact that there was not much to see or do in Mountain Home; the base and town are quite isolated. We would have to go to Boise (60 miles) or Twin Falls (70 miles) to see or do much at all. There was one small reservoir (CJ Strike Reservoir) about 20 miles away, but not too appealing.

We did drive to Twin Falls to see Shoshone Falls on the Snake River. Amazing canyon and large falls (see photos). We also hiked along the rim for about two miles to the place where Evel Knievel attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon on his steam-powered rocket-bike. He did not make it; parachuted to the river below. His takeoff dirt mound is still there as is a placard signifying the event. Long drive each way though to get to Twin Falls, especially since were were taking the trailer through there the next day.

Every morning at 7:30, the base loudspeaker system plays reveille and the National Anthem; Lisa found this fascinating. We also enjoyed watching the F-15 and F-35 fighters taking off and shooting approaches.
