Monday, July 5, 2021 - We drove from McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas to Beaver Crossing, Nebraska via an unusual route taking us northeast to Topeka, Kansas and then north to Highway 36, The Pony Express Road. We had heard about this route from a stranger we met on a bike ride. He recommended this route because of the beautiful country of the Flint Hills and the open prairie with cattle grazing. It did turn out to be an excellent route; a little longer (about 80 miles), but very pretty. Lots of open land and also lots of soybean/corn fields. It was an awesome, scenic drive for us. We arrived in Beaver Crossing at about 4:30 and drove to the RV park that the town provides. They have 50 amp service and water for us. They do not have a specific charge, but ask that you donate whatever you feel is right. This is a first. There is also a city swimming pool very close to our RV. We could swim, but did not have the time during our overnight stay.

We had just finished setting up our rig when we received a visitor. Seems that a lady who runs a service station in town had seen us pass by and stopped by to ask some questions about the RV. She and her husband are planning to buy a large toy-hauler like ours, so she had some questions. Her daughter, who is wheelchair-bound, would have to be able to access the rig too. She wanted to see how well our RV might work for this purpose. We had a great visit and we later purchased fuel from her gas station.

Tomorrow, we head for Mitchell, South Dakota; a city where we have stayed in the past. We will stay there for one night and then head for the town of Wall (Wall Drug) where we will park just south of town at Nomad's View as we visit the Badlands National Park.
