We drove to BayMills RV Park on June 18, 2020 - This drive was only 90 minutes long and, we think, the shortest drive for us between sites since we left Sacramento. The drive was very nice with super weather and great roads. Accessing our site was about as easy as it can get. We also have a neighbor who has a Polaris Slingshot; we have to see how they like it and what they don't like about it. BayMills is a casino, RV park, and restaurant. We walked through the casino and, at least, it was a non-smoking facility.

Brimley is a very small town. Sault Ste. Marie is 20 minutes away and much larger. We are driving to Sault Ste. Marie this afternoon to go to WalMart for some shopping.

Today, June 19, 2020 - Lisa and I went into Brimley and had breakfast at a local restaurant. The food was good and plentiful. After breakfast, we drove to Sault Ste. Marie to take a look at the Soo Locks where ships can transit from Lake Superior to Lake Huron. It is a massive facility and can handle ships up to 1000 feet long. The water in Lake Superior is 21 feet higher than the water in Lake Huron. The Soo Lock is capable of dropping these ships the full 21 feet. The distance from Duluth, Minnesota to the Atlantic Ocean is 2,342 miles and the total drop in elevation is 326 between Lake Superior and the Atlantic Ocean. About 7000 ships transit the locks each ten-month season, and over $500 billion worth of iron ore passes through the locks each year. For two months of the year, the locks are frozen over and cannot function. The Great Lakes contain 21% of the fresh water available on the planet. If spread out all over the United States, it would create a lake 9.5 feet deep. It takes about 22,000,000 gallons of water to fill the Soo Lock and it takes about 15 minutes to fill it. It is always filled by gravity from the water on the Lake Superior side of the lock. The lock is always drained in to Lake Huron below the lock. It takes about nine hours for a boat to pass the 63, miles from Lake Superior to Lake Huron. Needless to say, it is a pretty impressive facility. We are going back later today to take the boat tour that takes you through the lock and along the Canadian side of the water way too. The lock is also right next t the International Bridge between the USA and Canada. It, too, is an impressive feature. The bridge is closed right now to "non-essential" traffic due to the Corona virus. There were some trucks carrying cargo across the bridge primarily.
